Kick-off Programs
Dementia Simulation - A highly structured experience where each direct care worker is
dressed in adaptive equipment to simulate dementia (glasses to simulate vision problems,
taped gloves to simulate lost touch sensitivity and dexterity, earphones to simulate verbal recognition losses etc.) and asked to perform 5 easy tasks. After being the subject each
employee then records behaviors of the next subject. This is an eye opening exercise which
forces your staff to understand dementia from the inside out. The resulting empathy
generates employee attention and provides reason to focuses on training programs.

Best of Everything - nurse managers are brought into a room for an in service and
pampered with soothing foods, music, aroma's, massage etc. Nurses then do the same
for their nurses or CNAs. Particularly, in combination with Dementia Simulation, this
exercises builds a Nurses caregiver bond and creates a team for deployment of non-pharmacological dementia therapy.

Make a miracle- Engineered Music use is so simple aides initially don't believe that just
listening to music can change a patient's behavior. This program structures the initial use
of Engineered Music to visibly demonstrate and document how engineered music profoundly changes the lives of residents with dementia and also the lives of those around them.

Staff Management Support
Long term care management is typified by one unique emergency followed by another.
Developing career paths, individual evaluations or staff retention programs in this environment
is difficult. We provide a unique, quick, easy to use performance evaluation program to rate &
rank any staff on a common base. Scoring identifies specific employee for retention, their individual training &coaching needs, as well as staff that should be replaced. Forms
promote strutured discussion which help managers focus on, discuss and plan career paths
for staff to increase retention of high performance & high potential employees.

Staff Retention Programs
Staff/Resident relationship building
Nursing home research proves care staff may be retained by recognition and because they
believe a specific resident needs them. Research also shows the more an employee knows
about a resident the better the resident is treated.  Our relationship building programs use
old radio show formats (e.g. "Queen for a day","This is your life" etc.) to structure simple
exercises which build staff/resident relationships, reduce staff turnover and reduce resident
abuse & survey violations.
Motivation/recognition tools
Research shows many care staff leave due to lack of inclusion & recognition. In most SNF
work environments, where things go from crisis to crisis, it is difficult to remember to thank
& praise staff. Unfortunately research shows that staff usually lives up to expectations. Our
program uses calandarized such as "Catch them doing things right" with events & contests
to keep staff recognized, motivated & proud. All motivation and recognition reinforce training
of newly learned non-pharmacological programs.

Resident Family Management tools
Every facility has 1 or 2 resident/family combinations which cause continuing staff distraction & require inordinate amounts of administrative time. Our "Friends & Family" program provides
a simple format for introducing the concept of shared facility/family responsibility for a
residents behavior and provides a      contract to use to gain mutual agreement on resident care
& behavior.

Marketing Support tools
While waiting for the baby boomers to become residents our industry is faced with a temporary
decline in prospective residents. We have helped clients use non-pharmacological dementia
therapy to improve their local image, census and even build a waiting list using:

Internal signage which, which focuses family tours and points out how your facility is different      and better than neighboring facilities for the remaining life of dementia partients.

Internal Day Care is the opening up of your low stimulation, Comfort Zone, and/or
rehabilitation department for non-resident dementia therapy. This may require local or state certification or waivers but provides a ready list of prospective residents or a waiting list of      dementia patients who's needs for institutional care can be tracked.

A Non-pharmacological Public Relations Program to build local awareness of your facility and
provide a unique marketing “natural care” or “drug free” image. We provide the materials for      you to submit a series of articles/video stories to your local media and also conduct a series of
public programs to promote “green” care programs. In the event it can be arranged our      founder Alf Norwood will be a guest speaker.

Referral Marketing Program provides you with unique marketing tools to gain added referrals      and visibility from referral sources. We provide in-service scripts, slides and handouts which
allow you to present to and create optional relationships with potential referral sources such
as;  adult day care centers, hospitals and home health care agencies. We will follow-up with
support programs for your referral sources e.g. hospitals reduce both drug use and behavioral
problems for dementia patients using engineered music

Informal Assessment Center for seniors concerned with memory loss. Using our prepared      script, overheads and handouts and standardized tests provides an interesting presentation,      at your facility, for your community. Attendees learn about aging and mental abilities and take      simple tests which indicate if they should have further testing.

Distributing Sound and Living Care to prospective residents. This is our home product used by
family caregivers for dementia patients who are currently living at home. We do most of the      work but you maintain contact with the patient while they are at home so when the time
comes for nursing home placement you are the first facility to be considered. For more      information about our Home Product please see: www.soundandlovingcare.com

The Dementia Crib  is designed for highly competitive markets. Your facility provides family      caregivers with tools to improve their caregiving. These tools are provided on a free, first
come, first serve availability. Tools can include everything from support groups to books and
training materials, to the free use of the Sound and Loving Care program (your facility pays a
reduced fee per client and does not charge for it's use).

Direct Support
Any new program requires incremental, follow-on support to succeed. In some programs this
support is scheduled, included in the price of the product, conducted for our in-house
continuous quality improvement program and used to adjust each instillation for maximum
cost effectiveness. This support is provided in three modes

Mode 1 - Telephone Support
For all customers support is available 24 hours a day 7 days a week via our pager 800 734
6186 number. We encourage the use of the telephone consultation during the early
implementation stages to ensure program traction and early success. Additional telephone
consulting is managed though “telephone credits” received as part of the product or billed at a
low hourly rate.

Mode 2 - Written Support
We provide a variety of written materials to support your implementation programs. These
include notebooks, interactive CDs and internet messaging. As the computer resources at LTC
facilities increases we anticipate written materials will migrate from a preponderance of
written materials to a majority of computer based materials.

Mode 3 - Interactive CD
We have developed an interactive CD encyclopedia for non-pharmacological dementia
therapy. The benefit of this device over conventional reference notebooks is the speed with
which you can look up and switch between descriptions of behavior problems and their causes
and recommended non-pharmacological tools to solve those problems. Although expensive
this media allows us to keep current in a rapidly changing world of alternative problems and
solutions. Click here to see a sample
